Accommodation on UK farm varies greatly, the most common accommodation is in mobile homes, normally there will be 6 workers sharing (2 workers per bedroom), some mobile homes will be self contained with their own kitchen, shower room and lounge, but others may only have bedrooms and a lounge and separate cooking facilities and washing facilities will be provided. When working on a farm you will normally be charged £34.37 per week for your rent, you may also have to pay for gas bottles and or electric cards.
Some farms may use Porta Kabins, these are rooms that often have bunk beds in them that are used for sleeping and then separate cooking and washing facilities.
What ever accommodation the farm you are placed on has, you will be informed of the details before you arrive in the UK, where possible we will also provide you with photos of the accommodation to look at.
You need to remember that farm accommodation is basic and the standards will vary, it is very important when sharing accommodation with other people that you all respect the accommodation and try and keep it as clean and tidy as possible as this will make the experience much better for all of you.
Above are examples of Mobile homes and also a Porta Kabin (on the far right).
The photos above show examples of kitchen areas and living / lounge areas in mobile homes. If living in a mobile home with a kitchen you will have a fridge in the mobile home, a sink and cooker, some will also provide items such as microwaves / kettles and toasters. Most farms will provide cooking utensils, if you need to bring anything with you then we will let you know (plates / cup etc). Although there are lots of places where you can pick up cheap items when you arrive to the UK.
Often you will be required to bring your own sleeping bag / pillow with you when you come to work on a farm. Porta Kabins normally have bunk beds in them, whilst mobile homes single beds or in some cases double beds. No more than 2 people will share a bedroom in a mobile home, but there may be 6-8 in a porta Kabin depending on the size of the unit.
Make sure when you make the choice to work on a farm in the UK that you fully understand the type of accommodation that will be available to you. If you are not sure, ask us.
